The education department in Riyadh province plans to distribute free copies of a booklet on human rights in schools across the province.

“More than 30,000 copies of the publication entitled salient features of the treaty on children's rights, will be distributed in 1,600 schools in the province,” said Humaidan Al-Bugami, member of the human rights committee and director of legal affairs at the education department in Riyadh.

The book will help make the students aware of their rights and duties in terms of human rights, Al-Bugami added.

The education department held several meetings last week to chalk out the programs for the human rights day to be observed in schools in the Riyadh province on 31st December 2008..

Classes for rights awareness will be held in many schools in the province. There are more than 1,600 schools in the province with some 20,000 teachers and 400,000 students.

The human rights day events will also include special radio programs, school assemblies and contests besides orientation programs for teachers, he said
