About KSA (Introduction)

An Overview:

Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is an Arab Islamic state, the largest country in the Arabian peninsula situated at the strategic crossroads of three continents Europe, Africa and Asia. It is home to several human civilizations and the cradle of the heavenly messages. Capital of Saudi Arabia is Riyadh. The Kingdom is renowned for the sacred sites of Islam. The Two Holy Mosques of Makkah Al Mukarramah and Al Madinah Al Munawwarah are the destinations of millions of Muslims annually for Hajj and Umrah in addition to visiting several other sites of Islamic significance.

Saudi Arabia is home to several events noticeable in the History of Civilization, whether be in pre-Islam eras, or during the dawn of Islam or afterwards. Among these noted events is the Establishment and Unification of the Kingdom by King Abdul Aziz Bin Abdul Rahman Al-Saud. Saudi Arabia is considered the World First in Oil Production and Reserves.

Today it is ranked Tenth in Natural Gas Production.

KSA National Day:

Saudi Arabia celebrates its National Day on the first day of Libra, corresponding to 23rd of September each year, it marks the Unification of the Kingdom, and its Establishment in 1351 AH (1932 G), by His Majesty King Abdul Aziz Bin Abdul Rahman Al-Saud.

KSA Flag:

Saudi Arabian Flag is Rectangular with a Width of 2/3 of its Length. It has a Green background inscribed in the middle with the Islamic Testimony (Shahada) “La Ilaha illa Allah; Mohammad Rasul Allah” (There is no God but Allah; Mohammed is the Messenger of Allah) is written in White Arabic “Tholuth” script.

Beneath it is an Arab Sword, the handle of which is turned to the direction of the Flag’s Mast. Flag of Saudi Arabia must not be hunged at Half Mast, or Touched to the Ground or Water, out of Respect for the Shahada Written on it.

KSA National Emblem:

The National Emblem of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia consists of a Palm Tree on Top of Two crossed Arab Swords. Swords symbolizes Strength, Stamina and Sacrifice while the Palm Tree symbolizes Vitality, Growth and Prosperity.

KSA National Currency:

The National Currency is the Saudi Riyal, Convertible and Divided into 100 Halalas. The exchange rate is 3.75 SR per 1 US $.

Measures and Weights:

Kilometers, Meters and Centimeters are used for Length; and Ton, Kilogram and Grams are used for Weight.


Saudi Arabia follows the Islamic Hijri Calendar that commemorates Migration of Prophet Muhammad peace and prayers be upon him from Makkah to Madinah that was on 622 AD.

A Hijri year is of 12 Months, but the count of Days is 10 to 11 Days less than the Gregorian year. Days of a Hijri Month are mostly 29 or 30.

Work Days and Hours:

  • Government Organizations work from Sunday to Thursday, from 7:30 am to 2:30 pm.
  • Private Organizations work from Sunday to Thursday in Two Shifts. Morning Shift is from 8:00 am to 12:00 am at Noon and the Afternoon Shift is from 4:30 pm to 7:30 pm.

  • Banks work from Saturday to Thursday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, Some bank branches had Weekend on Saturdays.

  • Shops and Outlets are open from Saturday to Wednesday from 10:00 am to 12:00 am, and open again from 4:00 pm Afternoon to 10:00 pm in the Night on all weekdays except for Friday where they open from 4:00 pm in the Afternoon.

  • Work hours differ in Ramadan and Government Offices open from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm, while shops are closed between Maghrib (Sunset) and Isha prayer times.

Official Holidays:

Official Holidays of Saudi Arabia are:


Friday and Saturday.

Eid Al-Fitr Holiday:

It starts from 25th of Ramadan to the 5th of Shawwal for a duration of 10 days extending up to two weeks (if it starts before weekend holiday).

Eid Al-Adha Holiday:

From 5th to the 15th of month of Dhul Hijjah.

National Day:

23rd September.

Judicial System:

Saudi Arabia's Constitution is Quran (Book of Allah) and the Sunnah (Traditions) of the Messenger, may Allah’s blessings and peace be upon him (PBUH). Governance in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia derives its authority from the Quran and Sunnah of the Messenger, and both govern all the Laws of the State.

System of Governance in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is Monarchical. King and Council of Ministers' are the Regulatory and Executive Authorities of the state. Shura (Consultation) Council shoulders provision of consultation on General Policy matters of the Country headed by Chairman of Council of Ministers'.

World Rank:

Saudi Arabia is ranked First in production and reserves of Petrol, Fifth in Natural Gas reserves, and Tenth in Natural Gas production. Thousands of Muslims heads for the Kingdom for Hajj and Umrah, and for visiting Al Madinah, which necessitates provision of Housing, Catering and Health services for the guests of Allah Almighty.
