The Ministry of Education is participating in the application of the Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS 2023), which targets students in the fourth and eighth grades, during the period from May 30 to June 1, 2023, under the supervision of the International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement (IEA).
The TIMSS assessments will be given in a random selection of schools across the Kingdom over the course of two days. The purpose of these tests is to measure how well students understand the math and science concepts they have learned and to compare test results between participating countries to identify the most effective strategies for improving and enhancing education.
The Ministry of Education takes part in each cycle of the TIMSS international tests, which are held every 4 years, and conducts an analytical study to analyze the students' performance in the tests over the course of all cycles. The purpose is to provide teachers and supervisors with a report that they can benefit from as they receive training on strategies for teaching mathematics and science in order to improve and develop students' skills, bring them up to the level required by international tests, and harmonize TIMSS test standards with the Saudi curriculum.
The Ministry of Education is eager to participate in international tests, as they are important indicators of students' achievement in basic subjects and educational skills. These tests allow a comparison of students’ academic achievement across different educational systems in their cultural, economic, and social backgrounds, which helps the ministry improve and develop the educational process, its procedures, and its outputs in order to achieve the goals of the Saudi Vision 2030.
