The Ministry of Education has participated in the celebration of International Women's Day, which falls on March 8th each year; emphasizing its scientific and educational capabilities in supporting sustainable development, enhancing equalities, and achieving the goals of the Kingdom's Vision 2030.
The Ministry has made significant leaps in its efforts to empower women in the educational sector and enhance their leadership roles in educational institutions, as well as maximize their contributions to development programs in schools and universities.
Over recent years, women's participation in the educational sector and senior leadership positions has further increased, with more than 1,300 women leaders in education, more than 33,000 women serving as faculty members, and some 397,000 women working as teachers. Thus, the Ministry has been working to provide the right functional environment for women and boost their leadership and management skills through advanced training programs that contribute to the improvement of their capacities and performance, with the aim of increasing and sustaining their participation and ensuring equal opportunities.
The Ministry of Education has launched more programs and initiatives to improve female researchers’ contributions in science, innovation, and development. The goal is to enhance their role in addressing issues of national priority as female researchers, innovators, and leaders. This has resulted in a rise in the proportion of scientific publishing by 91% over the past three years, in addition to increasing the percentage of scientific paper citations by male researchers by 52%. Saudi women continue to make a more significant presence in a number of scientific fields such as health, medicine, engineering, technology, and computer science.
