
The G20 Research Ministers, in the presence of His Excellency the Minister of Education, Dr. Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sheikh, concluded their meeting in Trieste, Italy, stressing the importance of digital transformation in developing educational practices and encouraging innovation opportunities in society.
The first theme of the recommendations " Addressing the Changing Nature of Skills"; included the recommendation of keeping pace with digital developments in the areas of basic information and communication technology, artificial intelligence (AI), data science, and cybersecurity, promoting them in higher education and scientific research, and including the curricula with an appropriate level of digital competencies to keep pace with the steady change of skills adopted by societies and required by the labor market. Moreover, achieving inclusiveness in accessing higher education and scientific research services, and facing the digital divide and the risks that may result from the use of technology. The participants also recommended working under this theme to work on exchanging the best international experiences and practices in the fields of higher education and scientific research to prepare workforces with high digital skills.
The second them of the recommendations dealt with " Ethical Principles and Values in Research, Higher Education and Digital Technology Management. The participants recommended taking advantage of the opportunities offered by the digital technologies and their implications for higher education and scientific research, as well as limiting the misuse of these technologies spread in the digital space and preserving not to undermine the fundamental value of our societies
The participants emphasized the use of technology that respects the rule of law, human rights, privacy, equal opportunities, and participation of girls and women, in addition to sustainability and reliability, emphasizing the shared ethical values and responsible, reliable, and safe methodologies in developing and using of artificial intelligence in accordance with G20 AI-principle (Japan) G20 digital Economy _Minstrel Declaration KSA.
The third theme "Ensuring the Quality of Communication and Infrastructure and Cooperation Opportunities Provided by Digital Technologies" included the recommendation of redesigning educational and research processes, making use of computing power, robotic systems, and computer interactions, investing opportunities offered by international cooperation in the areas of data sharing and digital infrastructure in the fields of scientific research, reusing and sharing data, encouraging innovation, transparency, and sustainability in all educational and research services, as well as compatibility on common guidelines for defining the collaborative digital infrastructures for university education, and the importance of their joint use to advance science and technology and cooperate in facing global challenges.
