Under the patronage of His Highness, the Governor of the Eastern Province, the Asian Physics Olympiad 2025 concludes today
Under the patronage and presence of His Royal Highness Prince Saud bin Nayef bin Abdulaziz, Governor of the Eastern Province, the 25th edition of the Asian Physics Olympiad 2025 concluded today. The event, hosted by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, took place from May 4 to May 12 at King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals in Dhahran. A total of 240 students from 30 countries participated, with supervision from over 110 international physics specialists.

Upon his arrival at the closing ceremony, His Highness was received by the Minister of Education, Mr. Yousef bin Abdullah Al-Benyan; the President of King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals, Dr. Muhammad Al-Saggaf; the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity (Mawhiba), Mr. Sulaiman Al-Zaben; and the Acting Secretary-General of the Mawhiba Foundation, Dr. Khalid Al-Sharif, in addition to several educational leaders and representatives of Saudi Aramco, the event's sponsoring partner.
Dr. Khalid Al-Sharif addressed the ceremony on behalf of the host country, expressing his sincere gratitude to the wise leadership for their unwavering support of talent and innovation programs. He also expressed his appreciation to His Highness the Governor of the Eastern Province for his patronage and attendance at the closing ceremony.
Al-Sharif underscored that the kingdom's hosting of the Asian Physics Olympiad reflects its prominent global standing in fostering science and innovation, enhances its organizational capabilities as a leading international scientific hub, and demonstrates its continuous commitment to empowering young talent and expanding horizons of scientific collaboration with various countries around the world.
The President of the Asian Physics Olympiad International Board, Prof. Kwek Leong Chuan, praised the excellent organization and warm welcome, emphasizing that today's kingdom represents a leading model in the region in science and technology. He noted that the participating students learned about Saudi Arabia's capabilities and its position in supporting innovation.
The Olympiad ceremony, themed "Together, we generate the energy of the future," included a visual presentation that documented the event's proceedings and featured an artistic operetta highlighting the diversity of Saudi national heritage. The ceremony concluded with the recognition of students who won medals and the announcement of the top three winners in the competition. In total, the participating students received 169 awards, which comprised 28 gold medals, 37 silver medals, 59 bronze medals, and 45 certificates of appreciation.

The kingdom's students achieved notable success, winning two bronze medals along with four certificates of appreciation. The bronze medals were awarded to Mazen Al-Shakhs from the Al-Ahsa Education Department and Hussein Al-Saleh from the Riyadh Education Department. Additionally, certificates of appreciation were given to Fares Al-Ghamdi and Faisal Al-Muhaisen from the Riyadh Education Department, as well as Mohammed Al-Arfaj and Ali Al Hassan from the Eastern Province Education Department.

The Asian Physics Olympiad is one of the most prestigious international competitions for talented secondary school students who specialize in physics. This event marks the first time the Olympiad is being held in the Middle East, which underscores the kingdom's commitment to investing in human capital and enhancing its scientific capabilities. Additionally, it reinforces the country's significant position in both regional and global contexts in fostering talent and promoting scientific excellence.
